Ever wonder what it’s like to launch a Pritikin ICR program? We checked in with Clinton Regional Hospital’s Cardiac Rehab Director, Andrea Hammer to get her take on the implementation process now that her program has been up and running for a few weeks.

Those in the field know that cardiac rehabilitation is a special – and rewarding – calling. There’s nothing quite like witnessing patients flourish, gain confidence, and improve their health with you and your team’s help.

Andrea Hammer, Clinton Regional Hospital’s Cardiac Rehab Director discovered this calling just over a year ago. After 11+ years as a Physical Therapist with a certification in wound care, she made a career pivot when she got a job as an Exercise Coach. From the experience, she learned that she enjoyed working closely with cardiac rehab patients. Not long after, Andrea was offered a management position; now, she can’t imagine doing anything else!

Bringing Pritikin ICR to Clinton Regional Hospital

Clinton Regional’s Pritikin ICR program launched just a few weeks ago in August of 2025. While they are still adjusting to the new program, Andrea and her team have put in a lot of work to ensure a smooth transition to ICR. In fact, their work started long before they adopted our curriculum when Andrea first approached her supervisor about adopting the Pritikin ICR Program.

“When I first approached my supervisor about the desire to partner with Pritikin ICR, I figured it would be a long-term goal of mine and I would have to really work hard to prove how beneficial it would be for our patients, and the hospital.”

She was pleasantly surprised by the response she received. The same day she presented the idea, her supervisor reviewed the details and responded with an encouraging, “Move forward with it”. Stunned and overjoyed, that’s exactly what she did! With the support of her administration, Clinton Regional Hospital moved quickly to launch their Pritikin program. Andrea worked closely with our Implementation team to ensure everything was ready.

The Implementation Process

Our implementation process aims to ensure all new providers are optimally prepared to launch the Pritikin Curriculum at their facility. As you may imagine, there are lots of moving parts! Our team is there every step of the way answering questions, ensuring the CMS Enrollment – 855B Application has been submitted, adjusting program scheduling, training the team, and planning the program’s layout. Thankfully, Clinton Regional Hospital’s cardiac rehab department has a great facility although it required a bit of re-working to host the required education spaces.

As an outpatient hospital program residing within the hospital, they have plenty of room with a generous exercise area. Both teams got creative to identify a good space for Pritikin Cooking Schools and other workshops. Ultimately, they were able to re-allocate an area at the side of their department. Working together to come to solutions like this made for a positive experience all around.

The feeling was clearly mutual as Andrea shared, “The Pritikin implementation and training process was phenomenal. We had such an amazing crew of Pritikin specialists that made it fun and were a God send to us.”

Andrea and her team put in a great deal of effort to ensure their program was ready to open a full 3 weeks earlier than they’d originally anticipated to accommodate their administration’s timeline. The long days paid off as they enjoyed a successful launch on August 18, 2025.

“The experience was beyond anything I could have ever expected.  The Pritikin implementation team was patient, supportive, knowledgeable and helped us build in areas we knew we needed help growing.”

As they were preparing to open, they were introduced to their Pritikin account manager who now continues the partnership between Andrea’s team and Pritikin ICR. With regular meetings to brainstorm any issues that may arise, review progress, and share ideas, our account managers serve as an extension of a facility’s team. Our support and commitment to sites extends long past their implementation!

One Month Later

The Clinton Regional Hospital cardiac rehab team may be new to the Pritikin program, but the past few weeks have been extremely rewarding. Not only has the new curriculum resonated with their patients, but they are having fun teaching it. Andrea shared, “The education portion of Pritikin has been phenomenal and my staff and I, as well as the patients, are learning so much more than I could have ever dreamed.”

Nothing makes us happier than hearing a new program feels both supported by our team and encouraged by the patient transformations they are witnessing! While we stand by our education materials, we recognize that it takes a special team to truly bring it all to life for patients. This group does exactly that. We are so proud of Andrea’s dynamic team and the impact they are making in their community.

“What we are doing here at Clinton Regional Hospital Cardiac Rehab is beyond all of us, it is about something greater…we are making an eternal impact on the lives of our patients and people we encounter every day.  What could be better than that?! Nothing!”

Keep up the great work, Clinton Regional Hospital Intensive Cardiac Rehab!
